affinity photo comes to the mac with an extensive set of design features. from designing on a tablet to designing for print, affinity photo is available in two design modes: affinity photo, designed specifically for artboards in affinity designer, and photo, designed specifically for a photo or image. both modes support artists, designers, and photographers alike.

affinity photo includes a software distribution system that allows you to share your entire artboard set with others who have the software. use the software distribution system in your workspace, or distribute directly to your friends or colleagues.
the best way to use affinity photo is to view photos in person or on a monitor, select the area you want to edit, then start the retouching process. there are numerous settings that affect various adjustments. you can use the crop and rotate tool to resize the image before starting the edits, or apply any one of the many effects to your selection. if you resize your photo in affinity photo and it’s smaller than the profile it’s set to, it will be changed back to its original size. you can do this by hovering over the image and clicking the blue edit button in the adjustments panel. press enter to apply your changes.
you can select a layer to apply the effect to. the controls for opacity, luminance, contrast, and brightness are not as good as in photoshop. however, you have five options for basic sharpening, whereas photoshop has two. two layers of sharpening can be combined with one layer of one of the other three effects, as can one of the three curves. sharpening the image in photoshop will produce the same effect as the curve options in affinity photo.

make selections with the amazingly accurate magnetic lasso. itll let you effortlessly drag out a selection by tracing the edges of your path along the way, without losing your original selection. draw freehand with the pen tool. create complex paths and create a stencil from any selection. combine multiple selections to merge and subtract layers, and refine them with more precision.
when you create a selection, you can adjust the way the selection is made with creative tools like stencil and magnetic lasso. the refine panel lets you add feathering and blend modes to refine your selection. the invert panel lets you see what would happen if you changed the selection. itll also let you use the pen to change the selection path after your make it, and even make it using photoshop actions.
